Having read a few not great Love Inspired Suspense novels, I didn’t have any high hopes for this book. However, this book surprised me. It gave me a pretty good suspense romance combo for a novella. It was an enjoyable read that restored my hope in the books like this. I actually encourage this author to try and get a full sized romantic suspense novel published, because if this book was good being this small I can only imagine what she can do with a full novel.
The suspense in this novel was pretty easy to figure out, but the author added quite a few twists and turns that enhanced the story and leaves readers on their toes. It actually went pretty smoothly considering the size and the twists. Even though I figured out the mystery, I didn’t figure it all out and I really loved how the author put the monkey wrenches in the story. I also liked to see how the author ended the suspense, wrapping it up nicely and showing that she has a natural talent for writing.
The romance wasn’t quite as prominent in the storyline as the suspense, but the parts that were in made sense and flowed really well into the storyline. This romance is more on the sweet side and works amazingly well with the storyline. I think that if the author had made the romance more prominent it would have destroyed the suspense and thus ruined the whole book. So, I feel that it worked perfectly.
The characters were all pretty well developed. She was successful at making you love the good guys and hate the bad guys. I think my favorite character in the whole book was Lori, Ginny’s autistic sister. She added an innocence and even a little comedy into the storyline. She also made me smile most of the time and I feel she was a wonderful addition to the story. Ginny’s character also saw a lot of change in the story that went wonderfully with the circumstances.
This author definitely revived my hope that I could find a reasonably good suspense in the Love Inspired collection and I would highly encourage this author to try and get published outside Love Inspired. She captured my attention and I look forward to reading more from her, novella or novel. I wish this author the best and recommend that whoever’s reading this to keep an eye on her as an author. I guarantee that you won’t regret it.
Overall, the best suspense novella I’ve read yet and it is actually good enough to be a novel. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a quick romantic suspense. I give this book a four out of five.
