Eden Lee is completely different from her harsh and controlling father. She is gentle and fresh and her sister is high-spirited and cunning. When her father gets a new apprentice, her father is determined to follow tradition and make Silas marry one of the master’s daughters. With Eden’s sisters, Elspeth, calling dibs, Eden must stay out of the way and matchmake, but Silas and her fin themselves getting closer to each other despite her sister’s persistence.

Silas Ballantyne just wants to finish his apprenticeship and move west to Fort Pitt to make a life for himself. He has no interest in marriage or the master’s daughters. Or so he thought. The gentle, scripture starved Eden makes her way into his head and heart without even trying and he finds himself drawn to her despite Elspeth’s unrelenting flirting and pursuing.

As their attraction grows for each other, so does their bond, and their problems. Eden’s family is determined to marry one of them off and Silas is determined to not be forced to marry anyone. And Eden is determined to leave her family home and go and help orphans in Philadelphia, unless Silas stops her. When trial after trial gets in the way of their love Eden can’t help but wonder if she will ever have Silas or if she’ll just have the memories of what he gave her.

Will Silas and Eden marry each other or will they each marry someone who doesn’t have their whole heart? Will Eden go to the orphanage or will she give it all up for love? Will Silas get to go to Fort Pitt or will he give that up for Eden and her family’s blacksmith forge? Can love conquer harsh families and circumstances or is it just a dream that’ll never come true?

I’ve figured something out. If Julie Lessman (author of A Passion Most Pure) reviews a book and writes that this book stole her heart, breath, and sleep because it was so good, this book is going to be just that. Just by looking at this cover I had high hopes for this book and was hoping that this would be a memorable book that I would want to read again. Let me tell you, it was just that, not only would I read this book again, I have to get my hands on the rest of the series no matter how long it is.

I think the thing I loved the most about this book wasn’t the romance, though that was amazing, but the depth of the characters. Everything time that a character’s heart broke yours broke along with it and when a character was happy or sad, you felt the same. The author took me on a journey that I don’t get taken on very often. The author let me come on the journey of the characters and made me feel like I was going through it with them. It was amazing and really made the book.

The romance in this book was awesome as well. It was sweet and innocent yet not your typical Christian romance either. The author fit very nicely in the genre yet made a romance that even readers of more passionate romances can enjoy. This book touched a headstrong of mine and I don’t know how or which one it is all I know is that I loved it and can’t wait to read the next one in the series and any other romances Laura Frantz decides to write.

The storyline was amazing as well. Even though about halfway through, I would’ve preferred a different path than the author took, I have to give her credit for making this book realistic and amazing. This storyline is unique and heartbreaking, along with terrific and joyous. It makes you feel different chapter to chapter and takes you on an emotional roller coaster that really does make you lose your sleep, because you have to find out how this book is going to end. That almost never happens in a romance.

This author flew to the top of my favorites list and looks to have cemented herself there for a long time. I can’t wait to read more from this author. Her stories are well balanced, realistic, and heart tugging. If you’ve never read a Laura Frantz novel, this is the perfect place to start. If have read a book by this author, then I think you’ll appreciate this novel by her.

Overall, a wonderfully unique roller coaster of a book that leaves you excited for more. It does take a Tim that could disappoint readers, but the author uses it really well and totally makes the book worth reading. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves romance, despite what type. I give this book a four out of five.
